Due Week 5
Draws on Weeks 1 to 4
Format Written
Reflect honestly on who you are, then communicate it clearly. The outcome is a personal brand statement rooted in your values, your goals, and your best self.
This is the first graded piece, and it is the root the rest of the course grows from. It draws on everything from Weeks 1 to 4: how a brand is judged, introspection and journalling, goal setting, and ethical branding. Write it honestly now and the story, the roadmap, and the final presentation all have somewhere to start.
What it needs to reflect
- Your core valuesThe values that actually drive you, each connected to a real pattern in your behaviour rather than a word you would like to be true.
- Competencies and strengthsWhat you are good at and how you know, drawn from your framework results and your own evidence.
- Beliefs and attitudesThe convictions that shape how you show up, and what they commit you to.
- Your goals and missionA professional goal and the mission behind it, shown to connect back to your values.
- Your brand message and statementOne concise, attention-grabbing personal brand statement that captures the essence of your brand, aligned with your values and goals, and carried by anecdotes and examples of your best self.
Before you submit
- The statement is concise and attention grabbing, not a list of adjectives.
- Every value connects to a real moment or a framework result.
- The goal and mission trace back to a value.
- The brand statement could not describe anyone else in the room.
- I wrote it myself, in my own voice.
Top band
Specific evidence, in your own voice. The difference between satisfactory and excellent is almost always the anecdotes: whether the reader can picture your best self in a real moment.
AI policy, from the syllabus
AI-generated content is not allowed unless the instructor explicitly permits it, and any AI use must be disclosed. If undisclosed AI use is found, you have two days to rewrite with a 20% deduction, or the piece receives a zero. Late work loses 10% per day up to five days, then a zero.
Where it goes next
Your values feed the sweet-spot work and the story. Your brand statement becomes the opening line you eventually deliver in the final presentation. Nothing here is busywork, it is the first draft of everything downstream.
Honest first. Polished second.
